"Seed is not just the source of life. It is the very foundation of our being."

Dr. Vandana Shiva

The teachings of Dr. Vandana Shiva, an Indian scholar and environmental and food activist, center around the metaphor of the seed.  The seed is a symbol  of the inherent rights of all beings: life, growth and evolution and is intrinsically linked to our constructs of femininity, womanhood, and motherhood.  It is also a very real representation of our global food culture and the need for environmental sustainability and biodiversity, which for Dr. Shiva is inseparable from feminism and cultural diveristy.  This blog has been created with these themes in mind, with the hope that it will serve as a basis for understanding environmental toxins and their potential consequences on reproductive health.  We have outlined the sources and mechanisms of BPA and its derivatives, as well as Phthalates, both of which are fond in numerous personal care and plastic products.  We offer safe alternatives to these products and provide information on where and how you can recycle these items at WSU and in Pullman.  We, as women, are the Seed Keepers of the Earth and hope you will join us in creating a safe environment for ourselves and our future generations.
